Toronto is one of the places where Research in Motion’s BlackBerry is the popular choice among mobile users belonging in the corporate world. But when Apple’s Inc.’s second-generation iPhone had its debut in Toronto last July 11, it had been given a very surprising response.
It is not only in Toronto where the 3G iPhone was launched last July 11. In other cities in Canada, the Canadians have already queued up early as 2 o’clock in the morning even if the stores will open at 8 A.M. Because of the rumor (and probably because of excitement) that there will be a limited number of iPhoens to be distributed for that day, early customers said that they were just making sure that they get one for themselves. And by the time that 3G iPhone supplies were sold out the employees of Rogers Wireless had a hard time controlling the frustrated crowd.
Back at Toronto, when Rogers Wireless’ flagship store opened at 8 in the morning, both the 8 GB and the 16 GB model was immediately sold out after a few hours.
By August, the Research in Motion is expected to launch another smartphone that would (somehow) compete with Apple Inc.’s BlackBerry – the BlackBerry Thunder 9500. Analysts are now wondering how RIM will succeed in beating 3G iPhone in Canada when most of the mobile phone users at the country already bought and still waiting for the 3G iPhone.
