The mobile phone business is definitely changing. The once corporate-friendly BlackBerry from Research in Motion is now trying to become a consumer-friendly smartphone. On the other hand, the consumer-friendly smartphone iPhone from Apple Inc. is currently trying to become a corporate-friendly device. Since the 3G iPhone was launched, it became a very interesting battle between the two mobile phone manufacturers. And the battle might have become more intense if HSBC will boost the business credentials of the iPhone soon just like what the rumors said.
HSBC is currently the fourth largest bank in the world. Sooner or later, two-thirds of its workforce all over the world would be using the iPhone. This simply means that the company would be ditching RIMM’s BlackBerry – the device that they are using today. If this would happen, there would be as many as 200,000 units of iPhone in HSBC alone. This is great news for Apple Inc. Of course, it would be a big blow to Research in Motion if this happens.
According to the CIO of HSBC in Australia and New Zealand, getting an iPhone is something that they consider from the perspective of the HSBC group. Their company is always on the lookout for applications that have the potential in creating a revolutionary technology and Apple Inc.’s iPhone is no different.
