Today, let's meet Michelle Manhart, a former Air Force drill instructor and glamour model originally from Chico, California but now living in San Antonio, Texas. Michelle gre up in a military family, and it was probably preordained that she would follow in her father's military footsteps. She entered the United States Air Force after graduating from high school in 1994, and she quickly rose in the ranks, becoming a drill sergeant and earning an exemplary record. She had already served her country with honor for 14 years when she was approached by Playboy magazine, who was doing a special photo spread of women in the military. She though that this was an opportunity of a lifetime and quickly accepted their offer to pose in the magazine, and she was featured in their March. 2007 edition. She had informed her chain of command that she was posing for the magazine and thought that by informing her superiors ahead of time, they would have no issue with her being in the magazine.
Unfortunately, that turned out to be wrong. Despite the fact that she had an outstanding record in the Air Force and was on track for rapid promotion, when word of her appearance in Playboy got to her chain of command, she was demoted and stripped of her drill duties. She was reassigned to desk duty, and a number of trumped-up misconduct charges were brought against her. She eventually got sick of the proceedings and tendered her resignation, yet her discharge was held up for weeks. Eventually she received her honorable discharge from the Air Force in April, 2007.
Since her discharge from the Air Force, she has been offered several opportunities in modeling and acting, including bit roles in movies, a reality television show, and even an offer to join World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). While she is sorting through these offers, she has become the latest spokesmodel for People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). She is most thankful for all of the support she has received from friends, fellow military comrades, fans of Playboy, and even other onlookers who found out about her tribulations.
