Email activity and promotional trends during the past week:
The RetailEmail Index fell 1% to 214 during the week ending April 25, and is up 4% from where it was four weeks ago. The Index score indicates that the top 100 online retailers sent more than 2.1 promotional emails each on average last week.
RetailEmail Participation Rates: Last week, 92% of the retailers in the RetailEmail Index sent out at least one promotional email, down from 95% the week prior, and down from 93% during the 4-weeks-ago period. Monday, the day before Earth Day, was the most popular day to send retail emails last week.
RetailEmail Seasonality Meter: With nearly 7% of last week’s retail emails referencing Earth Day, it was a much bigger selling season than it was last year. On Earth Day itself, 17% of all retail emails referenced the holiday. The other big news last week is that Mother’s Day promotions have jumped significantly, rising to nearly a quarter of all retail email volume—and volume will pick up significantly over the next week or so.
Other things referenced by retailers: spring, summer, swimwear, outdoors, graduation, prom
