Email activity and promotional trends during the past week:
The RetailEmail Index fell 6% to 164 during the week ending Aug. 3, and is up 15% from where it was four weeks ago.

*The RetailEmail Index is a general measure of the email volume generated by 100 of the top online retailers.
Last week, 82% of the retailers in the RetailEmail Index send out at least one email, down from 90% the week prior, but up from 74% during the 4-weeks-ago period.
Back to School: The retailers in the RetailEmail Index sent 31 emails referencing back to school last week, down from 32 the week before.
Christmas (Dec. 25): There were 4 emails referencing Christmas last week, the same number as the week prior. With these “Christmas in July” references out of the way, we shouldn’t see any more references to the holidays until early September.
Labor Day (Sept. 3): We had our
first reference to Labor Day last week.
Other things referenced by retailers: fall, denim
