AM Inbox: Sportsman’s Guide abandons text-only emails

RetailEmail.Blogspot monitors the email marketing campaigns of more than 100 of the top online retailers. Here are highlights from our inbox this morning:

Sportsman’s Guide, 12/12 — Modal Lambskin Jackets under $70... Get More Leather Deals from The Guide
It appears that the Sportsman’s Guide has finally added images to their previously text-only emails—as well as color. This is the second email with the new format, with a Dec. 11 being the first. The new format is still text-heavy (which is fine), using images for branding and highlighting key deals. The use of red text in particular makes it easy to scan the message. Harry & David, 12/12 — Hurry! Only 3 days left for standard delivery
During the holiday season it’s tough to stand out in the inbox. A great deal can obviously do the trick, but so can great creative. In this case, Harry & David deviates from their usual product images to introduce Mr. Potato Head’s cousin, Mr. Pear Head. It really took me off guard and made me laugh. Yesterday they featured three Mr. Pear Heads on a sled so it looks like we’ll be seeing more of these cute, little guys.



Linens ’n Things, 12/12 — Last Chance 20% Total Savings + Free Shipping with In Store Pick Up
In another example of animated gif usage during the holidays to stand out, Linens ’n Things goes big with this 2-frame piece of animation. It’s probably a bit too much animation in a single email, but at least the images all change at once and don’t change too quickly.
