AM Inbox: Promoting online-only collections

RetailEmail.Blogspot monitors the email marketing campaigns of more than 100 of the top online retailers. Here are highlights from our inbox this morning:

Gap, 9/4 — Limited Edition European Collection: Chic New Styles
The Gap has a history of using their online store to introduce new clothing lines to see if they are successful enough to add to stores. Maternity apparel is the best example of this. Now it appears that they are testing out a European-inspired collection online and promoting it in this email. Email marketing is used routinely to promote online-only sales and products, so we should expect to see more emails promoting this new European line. And if all goes well, who knows, we may soon see European collections in stores next year.



Norm Thompson, 9/4 — Apologies for technical problems yesterday. 20%-OFF IS STILL AVAILABLE!
Norm Thompson explains in this email that a surge in traffic in response to their 20%-off sale caused technical problems. If you had performance issues over Labor Day, I only hope you can get things in order in time for the Christmas rush. Anyway, extending the sale another day is an appropriate response and will hopefully ease some of the ill will generated by the problems over Labor Day.

This is an interesting ***** twist on the back-to-school season, suggesting that just as kids are refreshing their wardrobes, *****s should do the same. With annual reviews on the horizon, this message may resonate with folks.
